 Solo hope

'm just excited for a change. I'm at that point in my career, I'm 27, where I just want something different. Going in, I don't know what to expect. I have a Brazilian coach. He doesn't speak English. I have a Brazilian goalkeeper coach, and he too doesn't speak English. I've heard his style is completely different than anything I've ever seen. As much as it's going to be interesting - I'm happy to have something new, because I think change is good. Check out the hair color.
I love the draft picks that we got. We're putting together, on paper, an amazing team. I hope it all comes together on the field. We've got some of the best Brazilian players, who I fortunately played with while I was in Sweden. I lived with them and know them pretty well. It's all coming together. pretty well. We have, obviously, Chups (Lori Chalupny) and Tina (Ellertson). Tina and I played together at Washington, and on national team and now in St. Louis. It's perfect.

fter watching the United States women’s soccer team’s incredible comeback in the 2011 Women’s World Cup quarterfinals against Brazil, I had a ton of things rushing through my head. What heart. What an improbable comeback. What a match. How cool was that to watch? Oh, and I have fallen helplessly, hopelessly in love with United States goalkeeper Hope Solo.
So here is my very private letter to Ms. Solo (who is single) letting her know how I feel.
Dear Hope,
You were incredible against Brazil, but that’s not why I’m writing this. I just want you to know that we’re perfect for each other. Yes, you read that right. You and I are completely perfect for each other. I’ll give you a minute so you can digest just how lucky you are.

Watching you go into beast mode during the match yesterday just did it for me. By the time you made your (I’m estimating here) 20th ridiculous save, I was swooning. What can I say? Experts all claim you’re the world’s best goalie, and, frankly, I can’t disagree with that…I can’t agree either, since I don’t really know anything about women’s soccer.
When you stopped that first penalty kick, and the referee awarded another, and you flipped out and got a yellow card, I was all set to throw down with that Australian broad who FIFA apparently deemed qualified enough to referee the match. Not that I’d ever hit a woman or anything I just mean that…moving on.

Sabine was introduced to tennis by her father at the age of seven and quickly realized she had a natural talent and love for the sport. After beginning her career on the ITF Circuit in 2004, Sabine rapidly established herself as a major force in the women’s junior game. She began her training at the prestigious Nick Bollettieri Academy, where her talent was immediately recognized by some of the greatest players of the game. Her breakthrough season came in 2008, and was highlighted by reaching her first WTA Tour final, in which she had wins over Davenport, Chakvetadze and Safina. By the end of the season, she was able to climb in the rankings from #237 to #54 in the world.

Sabine made history during the 2009 Family Circle Cup, by becoming the lowest ranked player ever to win the title in Charleston, South Carolina. As the 16th seed, the German teenager secured her first tour title by beating Danish 5th seed Caroline Wozniacki in a fast-paced final; the biggest win of her career. She burst onto the radar earlier in the week when she defeated 2nd seed Venus Williams in two straight sets. At just 19 years old, Sabine became not only the lowest-ranked player but also the youngest to ever win the Charleston title.

Sabine, who is coached by her father Richard and trains at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida, is known for her tenacious spirit on the court. Her favorite surfaces are hard and grass. Her powerful serve, consistently reaching speeds of over 110 mph, combined with her impressive groundstrokes make her an up-and-coming force to be reckoned with on the WTA Tour. With comparisons being made to Steffi Graf, due to her speed around the court and her attacking cross-court shots, expectations are high. Sabine is undoubtedly a great prospect for the near future. (read less)

Off the court, Sabine enjoys listening to pop and R&B music and reading. Her favorite book is Lance Armstrong’s autobiography ‘It’s Not About the Bike’; she admires his drive and determination. As a happy and hardworking teenager, Sabine is known for her fighting spirit.
